Finding answers to questions of faith has never been more easy or more difficult than the world we live in today. Thousands of YouTube videos or online articles can give every imaginable view about life, God and religion. So much can be learned in this way and can bring a person in all sorts of directions. But something very important is missing from these – the most simple of things: other people, simple human contact. This is an important part of anyone’s exploration of faith. There is an old saying that faith is “caught and not taught”. If there is one good way to really get an understanding and experience of faith it is to see it and hear about it lived in the lives of others.
The Young Adult Catholic Conference is an opportunity to get answers to questions of faith in a good environment. The speakers and theme have been chosen to give guidance and understanding to the many questions that young adults have in their minds today about faith and especially the Catholic Church.
A very special part of this Conference is that it gives focus specially to Mary the Mother of Jesus. It does this because Mary is a Mother and Jesus gave her to all Christians as a spiritual mother so we think that personally connecting to her really helps us to have an experience and understanding of faith in her son Jesus, the Christ, that is beyond the descriptions that videos, articles or talks can give. Our theme of “Do whatever he tells you” reminds us that Mary is giving us motherly advice to turn to Jesus to find meaning and answers for our lives.
Another special part of the Conference is that it really focusses on being open and welcoming to others and bringing an experience of faith to them. This was Jesus own mission and so the Conference takes on this character too again so to bring an atmosphere that lectures or talks on their own cannot communicate. An atmosphere of warmth and community.
The Conference will have lots of opportunity to meet new people, to learn the wonder and beauty of prayer and to answer questions and deepen understanding of faith. We are excited to be returning to an in-person event after such a long time. We hope to see you in St Pat’s College Drumcondra on April 30th. A welcome awaits you.
