A New World of Mary
Blessed be St. Joseph, Her Most Chaste Spouse
Saturday Feb 13, 2021
When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife (Mathew 1:24)
In 1921, Pope Benedict XV inserted the line ‘Blessed be St. Joseph, her most chaste spouse’into The Divine Praises. Fifty years previously, in 1870, Pope Pius IX had declared St. Joseph the Patron of the Universal Church. It was this declaration that began a period of great devotion to this most holy saint, of whom very little is known. It was also during this period that St. Joseph appeared in two Church approved Marian apparitions: Knock in 1879 and Fatima in 1917.
God desired that His only begotten Son, Jesus, be born of a woman. He also desired that He have an earthly father. This man Joseph was to care for and protect the Son of God and His mother while they were on earth. He must have been an exemplary husband and father for God would not entrust His Mother and Son to anyone less.
Our latest conference in the series ‘A New World of Mary’ took place on Saturday February 13th at 7pm. In this Year of Saint Joseph, the talks and prayers centered around this powerful saint. Guest speakers included Fr. Michael Maher S.M. The Rosary and Legion prayers were recited and there was a period of adoration before the Blessed Sacrament.

THE ANNUAL GENERAL REUNION
“At a time as near as possible to the feast of the Immaculate Conception a reunion of all the members shall be held……In addition to lighter items, there should be some addresses or papers of Legionary interest……. It will surely be unnecessary to remind legionaries that formality must find no place there.” (The Legion of Mary Handbook p. 175)
The annual reunion is an important event in the yearly Legion calendar. Like all annual Legion events, the annual reunion is held at a specific time of the year- near to the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, during the season of Advent. It is an opportunity for members to mix and chat in a relaxed informal atmosphere; to pray and sing and laugh; and to be edified and uplifted by a well-presented talk, as all prepare for the celebration of The Nativity of Our Lord.
The fifth Zoom conference in the series ‘A New World of Mary’ was held on December 13th at 7pm. This was the third Sunday of Advent also known as Gaudete Sunday or Joyful Sunday. Hence the title chosen for the conference is ‘Joy to the World’. In the spirit of the annual reunion, this conference included ‘…lighter items and some addresses or papers of legionary interest.’ It provided an interesting mix of poetry, art, music and chat.
Guest speakers included Fr. John Harris O.P and Fr. Brendan Walsh. The Holy Family Mission enriched the evening with festive carol singing.
He [St. Francis] sang to himself and to God songs of joy in his heart (Felder: The Ideals of St. Francis of Assisi, from The Legion of Mary Handbook p. 175)

Victory Through Mary
Nov 8, 2020
The fourth Zoom conference in the series ‘A New World of Mary’ was held on Sunday November 8th at 7pm, the theme being ‘Victory Through Mary’.
In our daily recitation of the Catena we are reminded that Mary is ‘terrible as an army set in battle array.’ Mary has been invoked in many battles throughout Christianity, from Constantinople in 718 to Lepanto in 1571, to name just two. On a smaller scale she has been the victor in many personal battles such as the conversion of St. Augustine. On an even smaller scale, we are all familiar with the constant war she wages on behalf of our own souls and the souls of those near to us. She does not work alone but with an army of helpers both heavenly and earthly. She is Queen of the Angels. She is greeted as ‘Full of Grace’ by Archangel Gabriel and yet she continues to grow in Grace. Her Victory over Satan, first mentioned in Genesis 3:15, has been revealing itself in the history of mankind for two thousand years.

The Triumph of the Lamb
Oct 11, 2020
The third Zoom conference in the series ‘A New World of Mary’ will be held on Sunday October 11th at 7pm. The title of this month’s conference is ‘The Triumph of the Lamb’ The aim of these conferences is to foster a deep love for Mary Our Mother and a clearer understanding of her role in redemption; in short, to bring Mary to the World.
The annual Legion of Mary pilgrimage to the shrine of Our Lady of Knock takes place every year in late September. The title ‘The Triumph of the Lamb’ is inspired by the apparition at Knock in which Our Lady is seen with St. Joseph and St. John the Evangelist as all three pray before the Lamb which hovers over the altar, surrounded by angels.
Guest speakers on the night include Eddie Stones, Fr. Basil Cole O.P. and Fr. Colm Mannion O.P. The speakers will draw on many different aspects of the apparition at Knock and relate them to our world today. The programme will also feature testimonies, prayer and song.
Our Lady of Knock is Queen of Ireland. She is Queen of Heaven. Our Queen has left her throne in Heaven to come to Earth to plead with her children to stop offending her Son. She has given us an incredible spiritual weapon - the Rosary - and asked us to pray it daily. She will crush the head of the serpent. Her Immaculate Heart will triumph. The Triumph of the Lamb is assured
A New World of Mary - Part II
July 5, 2020
The world is constantly changing but never so dramatically as in the last few months. The ability to practice our faith has been severely curtailed and we have had to adjust to new ways of living out our Catholic vocation. This Mary Conference focused on Mary as Mother - the perfect Mother who will go to the ends of the earth to rescue her children and lead them back to her Son, Jesus. Our prayers and witness can help her. Together we can build A New World of Mary.
A New world of Mary
Jun 14, 2020
God has given Mary Our Mother a unique role in His plan for the world. The apostles and the early Christians understood this and the Church has always acknowledged Mary’s special place in our redemption. As the 21st century gallops along at an alarming rate, Mary continues to call us back to her Son. In several church approved apparitions she implores us to pray, pray, pray. This conference will reflect on Mary’s appeal to her children (that’s us!) and how together we can build A New World of Mary.
